Juniper (Juniperus
communis)
Description...
Juniper was one of the
ingredients in gin and gave it the distinctive flavour. Juniper acts as a diuretic and
increases the rate at which the kidneys filter body fluids.
Because of this diuretic
action, juniper is used to treat high blood pressure, fluid retention and premenstrual
syndrome. Juniper oil is thought to have anti-inflammatory effects, and is useful for
arthritis and gout sufferers.
